A Cultural Lecture at Denenchofu Gakuen: “What Each Individual Can Do for Peace”

On February 8, 2024, Takao Toda, the representative of Forum2050, and Akari Itaya, a high school member, held a cultural lecture at Denenchofu Gakuen Junior High School and engaged in a dialogue with approximately 700 students.

Akari Itaya first addressed the junior high school students, sharing her experiences from her study abroad program in Rwanda during the summer of 2023 as part of the “Tobitate! Study Abroad JAPAN 8th Cohort.” She spoke candidly about her feelings and reflections after returning to Japan, using photos she had taken during her time in Rwanda.

Representative Toda gave a lecture based on his international cooperation and development experiences during his time at JICA. He encouraged the students to imagine how they might have acted if they had been in Rwanda during the civil war 30 years ago, fostering a dialogue with them.

We hope that this session left a memorable impact on each junior high school student, broadening their perspectives even slightly, and that it helped them gain a deeper understanding of Rwanda. (Akari Itaya)
