On October 8, 2024, Representative Toda gave a lecture on the future of international understanding education at the Seto City English Education Research Conference in Aichi Prefecture. Seto City is one of the municipalities most actively engaged in community schools. While the city has been working to improve both the quality of learning and regional development through the integration of schools, local government, and community, there has been debate on whether the approach to international understanding education should continue as before, simply introducing the realities of overseas countries and Japan to each other.Representative Toda proposed education that stimulates children’s imagination for the future in preparation for a new era. He engaged in a dialogue with teachers, not only about imagining a “rosy future” (utopia) but also about learning opportunities to avoid an “undesirable future” (dystopia) by envisioning it.
