On December 11, 2025, I engaged in a dialogue about SDGs and the future beyond with 123 fourth-grade students at Chiba City Miyazaki Elementary School.
First, we looked at the many “SDGs Sugoroku” games created by small groups. The games, filled with each child’s ideas, were fascinating! For example, one square read, “You spoke up to prevent a friend from being left out. Move forward 3 spaces.” Afterwards, we discussed the future we can create together. Then we asked, “In 2050, you’ll all be 35 or 36 years old. What kind of adults do you want to be then? What kind of world do you want to live in?”
According to Ms. Natsuhori, a teacher at the school, “After learning about SDGs, what questions should we pose next, and what should we learn? We want the children themselves to think about these things too.”
Collaborating with such a challenging educational environment is both enjoyable and rewarding.
