On March 11, 2025, I had the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with sixth-grade students who were on the brink of graduation at Yamenokawa Elementary School in Koto Ward, Tokyo. We spent 100 minutes discussing the significance of Japan’s contributions to the international community as a nation. Nurtured in a downtown area brimming with human warmth, this school exudes a welcoming atmosphere. Even the principal’s office is adorned with dinosaurs and cute trinkets, inviting children to freely visit and play. Whether it’s recovering from the devastation of natural disasters or laying the foundation for peace, the warm bonds of community are essential.
