Event Report: Yokohama Youth Future Conference – Making Peace Personal through Applied Theater Session by Yukari Ishino

横浜市主催のユースみらいカイギ

The Youth Future Conference, organized by Yokohama City, is nearing its final stages for this fiscal year. On February 1, 2025, Yukari Ishino (Associate Researcher at Waseda University’s Center for Human Sciences and Special Researcher at the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) will lead a session using applied theater techniques. While we were aware of the idea that developing “imagination that transcends time and space” requires not only mental but also full physical engagement, we now have the opportunity to experience it firsthand. Empathizing with people in different situations is actually quite challenging. We aim to reframe the concept of “peace,” which often becomes mere rhetoric, as something personally relevant. To achieve this, we will nurture the “imagination” that we all inherently possess into something more dynamic.
