On 24 September 2025, our President Dr. Toda and Vice-President Mr. Shoji visited the primary school division of Toyo Eiwa Jogakuin in Tokyo, where they held a dialogue session with sixth-year students. During the session, Dr. Toda provided feedback on the questionnaire responses submitted in advance by the students and delivered a lecture on various global issues, particularly those related to peace. The latter part of the lecture focused on Toda’s experiences in Rwanda of Africa, where he has been involved for many years. Throughout the discussion, he posed various questions to the participating students.
The responses were wonderfully candid and brimming with individuality. For instance, when discussing the progress towards achieving the SDGs, one comment stated, ‘This isn’t the time for slush funds in Japanese politics.’ Another student immediately responded to a question about food self-sufficiency rates, providing the correct figure. Particularly impressed was the comment made when Dr. Toda posed the question, ‘Yourself or Others?’ in the context of peace: ‘Because the people I cherish are also myself, if I only cherish myself, I cannot cherish the people I love most.’ This sharp, essential, and highly logical response was astonishing.
Thus, through dialogue, the children were prompted to consider peace, the world, and society, while the adults listening also gained much from this dialogue assembly. To all the sixth-Year students of Toyo Eiwa Jogakuin Primary School, thank you for the wonderful time.
