A Half Day in a Primary School
Kamakura City’s Peace City Declaration dates back to 1962. The city remains committed to peace education even today. However, as the generation of war survivors dwindles, the city’s peace education activities have reached a turning point. It was in this context that we received an invitation♪
I spent half a day with 350 energetic—no, perhaps overly energetic—children. Of course, I shared lunch with them too. Some children individually shared their thoughts on peace with me. During lunch, when we talked about various countries, the children immediately pulled up those countries on the Google Earth panel installed in their classroom to see what they looked like. What an incredible era we live in!
Like water soaking into parched earth.
But I must remember to recharge myself, so that I don’t become completely dried out in the process.
