Event Report: A Dialogue with Students at Rikkyo Jogakuin High School

We were invited to Rikkyo Jogakuin as part of JICA’s outreach class program. The students there had already visited JICA Global Plaza and had been thinking about, and acting on, the social contributions each person can make. Overall, they were highly engaged.

“Why does Japan have to help poor people around the world?”

These students already understood the basics, such as interdependence and humanitarian concern. So I tried to talk at a deeper level about why it matters for Japan to be connected to the world and to walk together with people around the world.

I do not know how much of it got through. But at the end, a student representative shared, in her own words, her thoughts on staying connected to the world. I was glad.
