Event Report: Dialogue at Wako City Daini Junior High School, Saitama

On October 9, 2024, at Wako City Daini (No. 2) Junior High School in Saitama Prefecture, our President Toda held a dialogue with 509 junior high school students on how to create a peaceful future. The event was open to all students and to Wako citizens.

Wako City declared itself a Peace City last year and has been actively working on peace since then. This dialogue was part of that work, and the second of its kind, following a dialogue with all students at Yamato Junior High School in January this year.

This time we had a full 100 minutes. During the break, some lively students came up to talk with us.

Read literally, the name Wako means “a city where the light of peace shines.” To understand what it means for light to shine, it is also important to know the darkness that makes us aware of the light.

We will also look at the children’s “kizuki” (realizations) through surveys before and after the dialogue.
