On February 16, 2025, a workshop was held at the JICA Tokyo Center as part of the “International Understanding Seminar @ JICA Tokyo Center,” marking the final day of a year-long overseas teacher training program conducted by JICA Tokyo. This workshop brought together young forum members, school teachers, and interested citizens, including high school students, for a lively discussion that transcended generations and positions.
The theme of the workshop was “What is needed for the next generation to consider peace as a personal matter?” Participants shared candid opinions such as “There’s no education in elementary schools that directly addresses peace,” “My student said SDGs are a luxury for the rich,” “I remembered the words that a teacher’s duty is to prevent their students from going to war,” and “As a senior generation, I feel responsible for the lack of improvement in society over the past 40 years.”
Three forum members – Maaya Fujimoto, Kanji Yamagiwa, and Shota Sekino – facilitated and led the discussions. This workshop provided a valuable opportunity not only for educators but also for a wide range of people interested in international understanding and peacebuilding to gain practical skills and new perspectives.
