Event Report: Peace Dialogue with Junior High to University Students at Nagaoka World Leaders Seminar

長岡市ワールドリーダーズセミナー

On November 8, 2025, we engaged in dialogue with students from junior high to university level at the World Leaders Seminar hosted by Nagaoka City. University students participating in the Nagaoka-Honolulu Exchange Program also joined the session. The young participants, who have been earnestly studying peace issues, demonstrated a high level of awareness, making for a rich and meaningful dialogue. Their insights included: “We want to visualize the value of everyday normality and understand peace through positive language, rather than only seeing it in contrast to the devastation of war,” and “We want to question what we take for granted while learning from history through multiple perspectives.”

Nagaoka is known for the “Kome-hyappyo” (100 bags of rice) story—a testament to this region’s commitment to investing in human resource development for the future even during times of famine. This city is also one of the birthplaces of citizen-led international exchange through initiatives like “Chikyū Hiroba” (Earth Plaza).
