On October 18, 2025, we conducted a “Thinking About a Peaceful Future” session for all students at Wako Municipal Third Junior High School. This was part of initiatives implementing the Wako Peace City Declaration proclaimed by the city in March 2023. With three public junior high schools in the city, this completion means we have now held “Thinking About a Peaceful Future” sessions at all municipal junior high schools, reaching 1,350 students.
While the 50-minute session was brief and we couldn’t engage in extensive dialogue with the students, we hope it provided them with an opportunity—even if small—to think about peace more personally than before. At the closing, the student representative shared their reflections in their own words rather than reading from a script:
“We will embrace what we learned today and continue thinking about what we can do to help more people see peace as their own responsibility.”
Notably, Wako City’s Peace City Declaration begins with: “We will respect each other and value every voice, no matter how small.”
This truly represents a first step from small voices. Forum2050 will continue to support and stand alongside these sentiments.
